The City of North Port reports: SCAT bus routes change in North Port

The Sarasota County Transportation Authority (SCTA) will implement new services and route and schedule changes for 15 Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) routes beginning July 13.

Among the routes with the most significant changes are four in south county:
  • Route 9 (North Port via U.S. 41): This route will be rerouted from the Walmart on Jacaranda Boulevard to the Venice Train Depot via the U.S. 41 By-Pass (a segment currently served by Route 16).
      • Time schedule adjustments have been made to preserve most connections with Route 16 (Englewood) at the Walmart on Jacaranda.
      • Also, routing changes to outbound service only to serve the Cocoplum Village Shops in North Port on U.S. 41, east of Sumter Boulevard, before ending at the Shoppes of North Port.
  • Route 16 (Englewood): This route will be rerouted between the Walmart on Jacaranda Boulevard and the Venice Train Depot via Jacaranda Boulevard and East Venice Avenue (a segment currently served by Route 9).
    • Time schedule adjustments have been made to preserve most connections at the Walmart on Jacaranda.
  • Route 20 (Toledo Blade): Timeschedule adjustments to preserve connections to Route 9 (North Port-Venice) at the Shoppes of North Port.
    • Route 20 inbound will now serve the Cocoplum Village Shops on U.S. 41, east of Sumter Boulevard before ending at the Shoppes of North Port.
    • With the new routing in front of the Cocoplum Village Shops, Route 29 will no longer make a loop via the Walmart access road behind Walgreens.
    • Those bus stops will be removed, effective July 13.
  • Route 29 (North Port-Glenallen): Time schedule adjustments to preserve connections to Route 9 (North Port-Venice) at the Shoppes of North Port.
    • Route 29 outbound will now serve the Cocoplum Village Shops on U.S. 41, east of Sumter Boulevard before ending at the Shoppes of North Port.
    • With the new routing in front of the Cocoplum Village Shops, Route 29 will no longer make a loop via the Walmart access road behind Walgreens.
    • Those bus stops will be removed effective, July 13.
Routes 9 and 16 will require separate fares or passports.
To help customers adjust to new schedules and revised routes, SCAT will waive the transfer fees between Routes 19 and 16 in both directions during the week of July 13-20.

Also, both Express routes -- the 90X (North Port-Venice-Sarasota) and the 100X (North Port-Sarasota) -- will now operate on Saturdays. There also are some new trips and schedule changes for the Route 90X and 100X.

Other routes with more minor changes taking effect July 13 are:
• Route 1A (Fruitville via McIntosh);
• Route 5 (Osprey-Swift);
• Route 6 (Beneva);
• Route 8 (Newtown-U.S. 301);
• Route 9S (North Port-Venice Sunday);
• Route 13 (Venice Neighborhoods);
• Route 40 (Webber Limited);
• Route 71 (Downtown-Booker High School); and
• Route 1713 (Tamiami Trail Sunday).
