North Port Media Release on Park of the Month

Pine Park is October's "Park of the Month"

Media Release
The City of North Port is inviting residents to check out Pine Park, located at 4556 McKibben Drive, this month's "Park of the Month." In conjunction with the National Park and Recreation Month in July, the City of North Port Parks and Recreation Division implemented the Park of the Month campaign to increase awareness of the City's neighborhood parks and associated amenities.

Parks and Recreation Manager Sandy Pfundheller said, "Our goal is to highlight both passive and active parks and generate new visits to these parks, especially the lesser known neighborhood parks. Parks and recreation activities can be enjoyed by all ages. I encourage everyone in the community to get outside, get active and play for life."

Pine Park is a 2.5 acre neighborhood park within walking distance to McKibben Park. General Development Corporation sold the land to the City of North Port with the deed executed on September 22nd, 1980. The original playground equipment was installed in 1989 followed by a formal park dedication the same year.

The park features a large green space with beautiful Live Oak trees, along with Sabal Palm, Slash Pine and Viburnum included in the landscape. A new tot playground and swings were installed in August of 2013 and a sand volleyball court was added in September of 2013. Both are situated under the Live Oak canopy providing a perfect play area. There is also a small pavilion that can accommodate up to 15 people with picnic tables and a grill. The pavilion is available on a first-come first serve basis when not permitted by reservation.

To get to the park, take Price Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard, head South on Sumter Boulevard to McKibben Drive. Take a left on McKibben Drive and you will find the park a few blocks down on the left.

As part of the Park of the Month campaign, residents are encouraged to take photos of their visit to the park of the month and submit them to the Parks and Recreation Division. Ten photos will be selected randomly to be highlighted on the City website each month and may be included in future marketing materials to promote recreation activities, parks and facilities. Please submit photographs in .jpg format (5MB limit per image) to parks@cityofnorthport.com.
